Georgia: two potential presidential candidates rejected registration
To date, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia has received 11 applications for participation in the upcoming presidential election. Two applicants have been denied registration because of revealed incorrect documents.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the CEC that the initiative groups, which had nominated Tariel Khvedelidze and Georgy Gakhokiya, were rejected registration.
Let us remind you that the agitation campaign for presidential election was launched in Georgia on July 2. The voting is scheduled for October 27.
Georgian political analysts believe that the main struggle for the post will be held between the candidates from the ruling coalition "Georgian Dream" and the pro-presidential oppositional party "United National Movement".
In comparison with the candidates from the two major political forces, other candidates have fewer chances, said Nikoloz Chitadze, the head of the "Centre for International Security Studies". He does not rule out the second round of voting.
