Participants of conference in Nalchik insist on developing programme for conservation of Kabardian and Balkar languages
The public conference held in the assembly hall of the Kabardino-Balkarian Business Institute in Nalchik on July 17 discussed the problem of conservation and development of national languages Kabardian and Balkar ones. Participants of the conference expressed the need to increase the enrolment of students in the departments of national languages at the local higher education institutions.
Valery Khatazhukov, the head of the Public Human Rights Centre, who led the conference, stated that the idea of the conference was inspired by the public concern over the state of the native languages and their legal status.
"Like in the 90s, the problem of the legal status of the national languages is again urgent. The state tries to avoid solving this problem and tries to shift it to the shoulders of parents," Valery Khatazhukov has stated. He emphasizes that at the same time, international experience shows that only the state can guarantee the conservation of the languages by creating the conditions for their development.
