Sabnava villagers from Derbent District complain about violations in payment of compensations to flood victims
The managers of the village of Sabnava, Derbent District of Dagestan, have incorrectly compiled the list of victims of the flood in October 2012, while the payment of compensations is accompanied by violations, local residents assert.
On July 16, a delegation of ten Sabnava residents arrived in Makhachkala. The villagers tried to get an appointment with the Acting President of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov.
"We came here because it is no longer possible to tolerate what is happening in our village," Elmidar Mirzoev, a Sabnava resident, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
He accused the authorities of issuing compensations "at their own discretion." Local bureaucrats are paying out compensations to their relatives and friends, who then return half of the money as "kickbacks". "Those who had actually suffered get some pennies and not even the full amount. This is what we wanted to tell Ramazan Abdulatipov, but nobody received us," said Elmidar Mirzoev.
In his turn, Ilgar Mamedov, the head of the administration of Sabnava, said that the villagers were spreading false information. He treated their statements about the involvement of his administration in "kickbacks" as "stupidity."
