In Western Georgia, heavy rains inflict damage worth more than 600,000 US dollars
In the villages of the Zugdidi and Tsalendjikh Districts (the Samegrelo Region), the damage inflicted by heavy rains exceeds one million laris (about 600,000 US dollars). This was reported by a representative of the local authorities.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that as a result of heavy rains that fell on July 19 in the Georgian region of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, the rivers overflowed their banks, inflicting considerable damage to 20 villages.
"The total damage exceeds one million laris," the "News-Georgia" quotes Goga Gulordava, the head of the municipality of Tsalendjikh.
According to the Goga Gulordava's report, in a number of villages in the region of Samegrelo, first floors of houses were flooded; some of the houses got cracked, crops were destroyed, and poultry were killed.
The highway Chkva-Lersi has been already restored. This was reported on July 22 by the "Georgia Online".
