Prosecutor's Office of Krasnodar Territory conducts investigation into 11 criminal cases on violations at construction of Olympic facilities
In the first half of 2013, the Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnodar Territory initiated 11 criminal cases on attempts to embezzle the funds allocated for construction of Olympic facilities in Sochi. This was reported on July 25 by Leonid Korzhinek, Prosecutor of the KrasnodarTerritory.
According to his report, the Prosecutor's Office has revealed the attempts to embezzle more than 170 million roubles allocated for construction of Olympic facilities, and at present, prosecutors take steps to bring back "the funds that were received groundlessly."
Leonid Korzhinek has added that after the intervention of the Prosecutor's Office "17 Olympic construction sites eliminated the backlog in the terms of works," the RIA "Novosti" reports.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 6, Vladimir Putin expressed his dissatisfaction with the pace of construction of the ski jumping complex "Russian mountains". In March, Dmitry Kozak, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, stated that, apart from the ski jumping complex, the Kudepsta thermal power plant (TPP), which construction was opposed by Sochi residents, became another problem of Olympic construction. In June, the Russian government decided to exclude the TPP from the programme of the Olympic construction.
