Detention of Imam Chumakov's supporter causes public outcry in Ingushetia
Representatives of social and political movements of Ingushetia treat the detention of Akromat Evkurov, one of the supporters of Khamzat Chumakov, Imam of Nasyr-Kort Mosque, as the government's campaign of pressure on the theologian.
"Akromat Evkurov is an unofficial body guard, since I have no official body guards," Khamzat Chumakov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to the theologian's story, there are people who "voluntarily decided to accompany me, and Akromat Evkurov is one of those persons who are constantly with me ".
Khamzat Chumakov survived in the assassination attempt committed on September 14, 2010. An improvised explosive device blew up under his car in Nazran, and the Imam had a leg amputated. The investigators connected the assassination attempt on Khamzat Chumakov with his speeches opposing the actions of the underground and representatives of the radical Islamic movements.
Akromat Evkurov was detained in the evening of July 24. His car was stopped by staff members of the Centre for Combating Extremism. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Magomed Khazbiev, the leader of the Regional Branch of the organization "PARNAS".
Magomed Khazbiev called the detention of Akromat Evkurov an attempt to put pressure on Khamzat Chumakov. "This is an attempt to put pressure on the person who calls for peace, for stopping killing each other and calls on officials to cease being engaged in corruption," Magomed Khazbiev has stated.
