Trial on lawsuit of HRC "Memorial" demanding to abolish its registration as foreign agent rescheduled for September 13
The court session on the claim of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" against the actions of the Prosecutor's Office, which had demanded that the Centre should get registered as a foreign agent, initially scheduled for July 31, has been postponed till September 13, the HRC reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the off-the-schedule inspection of the HRC "Memorial" was launched by the Moscow Prosecutor's Office with the assistance of experts of the Tax Inspectorate and the Ministry of Justice on March 26. Based on the results thereof, the Office has concluded that the HRC had failed to meet the requirements of point "b" of Article 2 of the Federal Law of 12 January 1996 No. 7-FZ "On Non-Commercial Organizations" and demanded that the HRC got registered as a foreign agent. The latter treated the Office's conclusion as wrong and filed a complaint with the Zamoskvoretskiy Court of Moscow. A preliminary hearing on the case was rescheduled twice and was finally held on June 28, where the trial on the merits was appointed.
The lawsuit, lodged by the HRC "Memorial", notes that the findings of the Prosecutor's Office on the activities of the HRC are unjustified; and the information underlying the prosecutor's decision is unreliable.
Let us note here that on April 8 the HRC "Memorial" appealed against the very inspection conducted by the Moscow Prosecutor's Office and the actions of inspectors. On April 24, the above Zamoskvoretskiy Court dismissed the motion; and the HRC announced its intention to appeal against the dismissal.
