In Baku, at trial of Hilal Mamedov, three defence motions dismissed

Today, at the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, at the trial on the case against Hilal Mamedov, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Tolyshi Sado" (Voice of Talysh), three motions that were filed by the defendant and his advocates last week were dismissed. The witness did not come to the trial again, and Judge Azer Orudjev intended to restrict participation of the witness by reading out his testimony given during the preliminary investigation. However, the defence objected to that, and the court hearings were postponed till August 7.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the closed part of the court hearings was completed on May 15. At the court hearings held on May 22, Hilal Mamedov began to testify on charges of illegal possession and trafficking of drugs. On May 29, Hilal Mamedov denied the charge against him and claimed his rights were violated.

In particular, Hilal Mamedov filed a motion to carry out the investigation into the death of witness Aziz Agakishiev and departure of Ulfat Abbasov from the country. According to the Hilal Mamedov's version, the two witnesses gave testimonies against him under pressure, and the defendant does not rule out the possibility that one of them could be "put out off the way" and the other may have left the country, fearing for his life.

It should be noted that prior to the trial, a group of public support for Hilal Mamedov organized a picket that was attended by about 30 persons. The protest action lasted for about 10 minutes, and the police did not interfere.

Let us remind you that Hilal Mamedov is the author of the video "Who are you? Come on, goodbye!" that has become very popular on the Internet.
