In Georgia, Court refuses to release Mikhail Kadiev and Rizvan Omarov on bail

Today, the Tbilisi City Court refused to release on bail Mikhail Kadiev and Rizvan Omarov, who were charged of the illegal acquisition and possession of weapons and explosive substances. This was reported by Gela Nikoleishvili, the advocate of the defendants.

Let us remind you that on June 13, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported on preventing a terror act in Tbilisi. Mikhail (Mikail) Kadiev and Rizvan Omarov, the alleged organizers of the terror act, were detained. On June 15, the Tbilisi City Court pronounced the pre-trial restriction measure to them in the form of detention in custody for two months.

The defence suggested releasing the defendants on bail of 10,000 laris (about 6000 US dollars) for each defendant; however, the judge dismissed the motion. The advocate believes that the Court had no reason to keep the defendants in custody.

Gela Nikoleishvili believes that the detention of Mikhail Kadiev in custody may be politically motivated, since in 2010, he was put on the wanted list of the Russian Federation.

Let us remind you that, according to the information of the GUVD (Chief Interior Department) for Moscow, Mikhail Kadiev was one of the persons suspected of the assassination of Alimsoltan Alkhamatov, the head of the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan, committed in the September 2009 in Moscow.

The advocate treats the charges against Rizvan Omarov as inconsistent. He just came to visit Mikhail Kadiev, and he was arrested "for company", Gela Nikoleishvili explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The consideration of the case is scheduled for August 13.
