Russia's SC softens sentence to two defendants on charges of mass rioting in Sagra
The Russia's Supreme Court (SC) has reduced the sentence to two defendants on charges of riots in the village of Sagra, Sverdlovsk Region, during which a native of Azerbaijan was killed. Artyom Rabadanov and Shota Katamadze were released in the courtroom.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the court began considering the appeals against the sentence on charges of mass riots in Sagra, Sverdlovsk Region, on July 31. In their appeals, the claimants' party stands for re-examination of the case, while the majority of inmates ask to overturn the verdict.
Today, during a session of the SC, the prosecutor has stated that the convict Rabadanov should be released from the penalty imposed on one of the incriminated articles (a threat of death or serious physical harm), since two years have elapsed; and the article deals with a minor offense, the RAPSI reports.
According to the ruling of the court, Artyom Rabadanov received a four-year suspended sentence with probation for two years instead of four years' imprisonment. Shota Katamadze received a replacement of his earlier four years of imprisonment in a penal colony for 2 years and 2 months of conditional imprisonment, the ITAR-TASS reports.
Besides, the SC has reduced the legal fees for the convicted Valentina Lebedeva, while all the other complaints lodged by defendants and victims were dismissed.
