Imam of Makhachkala city mosque shot dead in Dagestan
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by a source from the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the ICRF that an Imam of a Makhachkala mosque was killed tonight in the course of shelling; his driver was wounded.
"The car with Imam Ilyas Ilyasov was shelled by unidentified gunmen at about 10:30 p.m. in Khizroev Street. As a result, the Imam died from his wounds on the spot, and his driver was wounded and taken to hospital," said the source.
He added that an investigation team was working at the site, trying to establish potential culprits.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported about other attempts on religious leaders in Dagestan. On July 25, a 40-year-old Rabbi Isakov was wounded in Derbent. In serious condition with a through wound, the Rabbi was taken to the central hospital of Derbent.
