Father of anaesthesiologist Marat Gunashev asks to speed up investigation into case against his son

The father of anaesthesiologist Marat Gunashev, suspected of the murder of the chief of the Makhachkala Police, has appealed to Mikhail Fedotov, Chairman of the Presidential Council on Human Rights, and Mara Polyakova, Chairperson of the Expert Legal Committee and a member of the Presidential Council on Human Rights. He has asked to provide assistance in investigating the case and bringing it to trial. He also asked to assist in mitigating pre-trial restriction measure.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 28, 2012, Marat Gunashev, an anaesthesiologist of the 2nd City Hospital of Makhachkala, and his colleague Shamil Gasanov were detained on suspicion of the murder of Akhmed Magomedov, Chief of the Makhachkala UVD (Interior Department), and involvement in the armed underground.

The detainee's parents ask to speed up the investigation into the case, since they are "firmly convinced that Marat Gunashev is not guilty - he is a doctor, an anaesthesiologist, and not a murderer and an accomplice of murderers." This was stated by the text of the appeal, a copy of which was presented to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"For eight months, while he is kept at the SIZO (pre-trial prison), no investigative actions were carried out," the appeal emphasizes. "I do not understand why they detain in custody the innocent man for eight months without any reason," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Kamil, the father of Marat Gunashev.
