In Georgia, 116 prisoners granted CER
In Georgia, 116 prisoners were granted conditional early relief (CER). This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance.
According to the information of the Ministry, the decision was made by Eastern and Western Local Councils on August 1-2. "The number of prisoners who were granted CER includes 4 women and 7 seriously ill prisoners," announced the statement of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance.
The council for granting CER consists of representatives of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance and the National Probation Agency, and representatives of NGOs, the Mayoralty and the High Council of Justice. The decision on granting CER to a prisoner is to be made by a majority of votes, the "News-Georgia" reports.
CER was granted against the background of the events of August 3. On that day, in Georgia, two prisoners, who are serving their sentences in the Ksani prison No. 15, went on hunger strike, demanding better detention conditions and medical care, and sewed their mouths. Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the inmates of the prison No. 17 located in the city of Rustavi also went on hunger strike. By July 25, 37 prisoners participated in hunger strike there.
