Baku hosts protest action demanding to release Ilgar Mamedov, REAL leader
The civil movement "Republican Alternative" (REAL) held a protest action demanding to release its leader Ilgar Mamedov.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ilgar Mamedov is charged of organizing mass riots in the town of Ismailly that occurred on January 23-24 and that he is kept in custody. According to the defendant's story, he came to Ismailly only to study the situation and just talked to local residents.
The protest action was timed to mark six months from the date of Ilgar Mamedov's arrest. This was reported by the edition "Contact online news".
Initially, the protest action was planned to be held in Sahil Park. However, the park was approached by seven police cars and two buses. Therefore, the protest action was postponed at the last moment.
Participants of the protest action wore T-shirts with the image of Ilgar Mamedov and held posters reading: "Freedom to Ilgar Mamedov!" and "Presidential candidate Ilgar Mamedov!" The secret services and the police did not manage to react, and no one was detained, the edition "Zerkalo.az" reports.
Let us remind you that on February 5, on the next day after Ilgar Mamedov's arrest, the civil movement "REAL" nominated him as a presidential candidate for the upcoming election.
