ReAl activist sentenced to seven days' administrative arrest in Azerbaijan
In Azerbaijan, Asif Orudjlu, an activist of the civil movement "Republican Alternative" (ReAl), who was arrested on August 4 before the rally in defence of the rights of the imprisoned leader of the movement Ilgar Mamedov, was sentenced to seven days of administrative arrest for disobeying the police.
Asif Orudjlu was detained at the SakhilPark at about 8:00 p.m., said Natig Djafarli, the executive secretary of the ReAl.
"Orudjlu was wearing a T-shirt with a portrait of Ilgar Mamedov and inscription 'Freedom to Ilgar Mamedov!' The police spotted him and detained," Natig Djafarli told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"Unfortunately, we learnt late about the detention of Asif Orudjlu. Only at night, Asif could tell about his detention. On Monday, August 5, he was taken to the Sabail District Court, where without the presence of a trusted advocate Asif was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment for allegedly disobeying the police. This is a lie. Asif was arrested just for his intention to participate in the protest. This is a politically motivated arrest," said Djafarli.
