Yerevan hosts protest action demanding resignation of city transport top managers
Taron Margaryan, Mayor of Yerevan, has stated that he does not intend to meet the demand of activists of the movement "We will pay 100 drams" to dismiss Genrik Navasardyan, Chief of the Transport Department of the Mayoralty, and Misak Ambartsumyan, Director of the Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) "Yerevantrans". The activists responded to the Mayor's statement by a protest action held in front of the City Mayoralty, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 26, about 30 activists of the initiative group "We will pay 100 drams", declared an indefinite sitting protest picket in front of the City Mayoralty demanding the resignation of Genrik Navasardyan and Misak Ambartsumyan.
Yesterday, on August 6, speaking on the air of the "Azatutyun TV", Taron Margaryan, Mayor of Yerevan, called the activists' demands "groundless".
"Of course, I will replace employees who fail to do their job normally; however, today, these persons do their job properly," the Mayor has said. He has added that he considers it not normal when "three or four persons come together and demand the resignation," the "Tert.am" reports.
In response, a group of 40 activists held the protest action. The participants were holding in their hands the posters demanding the resignation of officials. The activists also tried to pitch tents on the lawns in front of the City Mayoralty; however, immediately after they pitched the tents, the police demolished them, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
