In Volgograd, policemen detain a picketer in defence of animals
Tatiana Ryabinova, the coordinator of the regional branch of the organization named "Vita" Centre for Protection of Animals' Rights, who held a solo picket on August 7 in Volgograd, was taken to the police station for questioning about her action.
"A boss with big stars on epaulets came; and I was taken to the police station. There, they photocopied my passport and wrote down my testimony about what I was doing during my picket. I was released after 30 minutes. It remained unclear what I had violated," Ms Ryabinova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The picket was held at the Trading and Entertainment Centre (TEC) "Diamant" in the Traktorozavodskoy District of Volgograd. Tatiana Ryabinova stood there with two posters: "Menagerie is concentration camp for animals!" and "Menagerie prisoners are waste circus staff."
"Menageries are behind the scene of circus; they are products of the Russian State Circus Company. They keep animals discarded by circus; they are carried around the country to earn more money," the activist has explained her position.
She also said that on August 9 and 10 Volgograd will host two sanctioned pickets at the circus at 5 p.m. and at the TEC "Diamant" at midday. The applications state that each of them will be attended by 30 people.
