Militants confirm underground leader Khasanbi Fakov killed in Nalchik

In Nalchik, during the fire fight that occurred at night of August 7, Khasanbi Fakov, the leader of the armed underground of Kabardino-Balkaria, and his wife Irina Ortanova were killed. This was reported by the information resources that support militants of Northern Caucasus.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 7, in Nalchik, unidentified persons opened fire on staff members of the DPS (patrol service of road police). One of the law enforcers was wounded and later died in hospital. Four persons were killed by return fire. According to the law enforcers' report, the number of the killed persons includes Khasanbi Fakov, the leader of the underground of Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia.

The fact that Khasanbi Fakov was killed in an armed clash in Nalchik was acknowledged by the message posted on the website supporting militants of Northern Caucasus. The message refers to Khasanbi Fakov as "Amir Abu Khassan".

Earlier, Khasanbi Fakov led the armed groupings of the Chegem District of Kabardino-Balkaria; however, after a number of leaders of the local underground were killed, Doku Umarov has promoted him to be the leader of militants of Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia subordinated to the "Imarat Kavkaz", the "Kommersant" reports without specifying the sources of information.
