Detained Mayor of Karachaevsk pleads not guilty, his lawyer reports
Soltan Semenov, Mayor of Karachaevsk, who was detained on August 8 after charges of misuse of budgetary funds, has agreed to testify in the case. However, he pleaded not guilty.
Let us remind you that on August 8, investigators made a decision to detain Soltan Semenov, Mayor of Karachaevsk, who was put on the federal wanted list and who he came for questioning.
Andrei Ostroukhov, the advocate of Soltan Semenov, believes that the Mayor of Karachaevsk was detained groundlessly.
"We have evidence that he should not even be involved as a suspect in the case of misuse of funds. I am also preparing a motion to recognize the initiation of the criminal case against the Mayor of Karachaevsk unlawful," Andrei Ostroukhov has concluded.
According to the opinion of Baimurza Uzdenov, a member of the Council of Elders of the city of Karachaevsk, the detention of the Mayor of Karachaevsk and the case initiated against him are politically motivated.
"This is lawlessness. People of Karachaevsk are outraged. At present, city residents collect signatures under appeals that will be sent to various authorities," Baimurza Uzdenov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
