Azerbaijani CEC approves Ilham Aliev as candidate to run for presidency

On August 10, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan has approved the candidacy of incumbent President Ilham Aliev for taking part in the presidential election.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at the meeting held on August 2, the CEC of Azerbaijan officially scheduled the voting in the next presidential election in the country for October 9. On June 7, the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan" unanimously nominated President Ilham Aliev as presidential candidate in the forthcoming election.

Today, the Azerbaijani CEC has decided to approve the nomination of the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan" Party (YAP) of its Chairman and current President Ilham Aliev, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Thus, Ilham Aliev became the first candidate to run for the presidency, whose nomination was approved by the CEC.
