Prosecutor's Office insists on separating the case of wounded figurant in Politkovskaya's murder case into separate proceedings
The Prosecutor's Office has offered to open a separate proceeding in relation to Djabrail Makhmudov, accused of complicity in the murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya, and continue the trial. Djabrail was wounded in the evening on August 14. His advocate Murad Musaev is against it, saying that his client will recover quickly and be able to participate in the sessions.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that attempt on the life of Makhmudov was declared by Murad Musaev. Makhmudov is a figurant in Politkovskaya's murder case and is under recognizance not to leave. Today, it became known that the defendant was operated on: he might have his leg nerves cut.
Let us remind you that Djabrail Makhmudov was detained in 2007 and charged with complicity in the murder of Politkovskaya. According to investigators, Makhmudov transferred information about Politkovskaya's travels to his brothers Rustam and Ibragim Makhmudov. On February 19, 2009, the jury acquitted the Makhmudov brothers, arguing that their involvement in the crime was not proved.
The Russian General Prosecutor's Office appealed against the decision. On June 3, the second trial began, where the defendants are the Chechen businessman Lom-Ali Gaitukaev, treated by investigators as the organizer of the murder, his three nephews Rustam, Ibragim and Djabrail Makhmudov, and a former police officer Sergey Khadjikurbanov. All they assert that they are innocent.
