Red Cross staff members fail to visit soldier Akop Indjigulyan in Baku
In Yerevan, relatives of soldier Akop Indjigulyan, who was captured in Azerbaijan on August 8, met Dragana Rankovic, Emissary of the Armenian Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The Emissary has assured them that the Red Cross takes steps to arrange a meeting with Akop Indjigulyan. However, by the evening of August 15, the meeting did not take place, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
Let us remind you that at night of August 8, according to the preliminary data, Akop Indjigulyan lost his way and entered the territory controlled by the Azerbaijani armed forces. There, he was detained and then taken to Baku.
On the fact of the incident, the criminal case was instituted under Part 1 Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (violation of the rules of combat duty or military service to detect in due time and repulse a sudden attack on the Republic of Armenia, or to ensure the security of the Republic of Armenia, if such an act caused by negligence or posed a threat of such harm). This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Artsrun Ovannisyan, Press Secretary of the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD).
However, Artsrun Ovannisyan has emphasized that the actions of Akop Indjigulyan do not contain any constitute elements of a crime, and the soldier will face no prosecution at home.
The relatives of the captive soldier appealed to President Serzh Sargsyan and Seiran Oganyan, Armenian Minister of Defence, asking for assistance in return of the Armenian soldier.
In particular, the relatives asked for the President and the Minister of Defence to contact Russian President Vladimir Putin and to ask him to act as a mediator in the incident.
