Residents of Chechnya are called by Imams to go to elections
As reported by locals, on August 16, before the collective Friday prayer, Imams of some Chechen mosques called their parishioners to take an active part in the local parliamentary elections.
Apart from the elections, Imams also called believers to vote in favour of the mosque called "Heart of Chechnya" at the All-Russian contest "Russia-10". At the first round of the contest, the Mosque "Heart of Chechnya" took the first place among other objects of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) with over 875,000 votes in support.
An Imam from Grozny told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the instruction to call believers to actively participate in the forthcoming elections and to vote for the Mosque "Heart of Chechnya" was issued by the Muftiate of the Republic.
Let us remind you that 17 parties take part in the parliamentary elections of Chechnya of the third convocation. According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), 776 candidates claim for 41 seats in the Legislative Assembly, including over 200 women and more than 400 young people aged under 30.
The current parliament that was elected in October 2008 has only two parties – the "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) and "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia), with 40 seats out of 41 belonging to the former.
