Baku Mayoralty sanctions rally in support of Rustam Ibragimbekov
The Mayoralty of Baku has sanctioned the rally appointed for August 18 by the oppositional National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) in support of the presidential candidate, the screenwriter Rustam Ibragimbekov. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by Asef Guliev, the chairman of the rally committee of the NCDF and the deputy chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA).
Let us remind you that the decision to hold a rally was made at the sitting of the NCDF on August 12.
According to Asef Guliev, the NCDF has united all the real oppositional forces. The rally will demonstrate that the NCDF enjoys people's support, while the authorities will have to take into account the people's opinion and ensure participation of the NCDF candidate in the election.
During the rally, according to Asef Guliev, demands will be voiced out to ensure equal opportunities for all presidential candidates, remove barriers to the registration of the candidate from the NCDF Rustam Ibragimbekov, the freedom of assembly and expression during the election campaign, and political pluralism in the media.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that currently Ibragimbekov is outside Azerbaijan. In early July, he officially appealed to the authorities of the Russian Federation with a request to abolish his Russian citizenship; however, he received no response yet. According to the Constitution of Azerbaijan, a person having dual citizenship cannot be the President.
