Cherkessk: leaders of Coordination Council of Russia's Repressed Nations elected
On August 17, in Cherkessk, the first meeting of the Coordination Council of Repressed Nations of Russia was held. During the meeting, Ruslan Khabov, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly (Parliament) of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR), Chairman of the public association "Karachay Alan Khalk" (Karachay People are Alanian People), was elected Chairman of the Council.
Suleiman Botashev, Deputy Chairman of the public association "Karachay Alan Khalk", was elected Deputy Chairman of the Council.
The Coordination Council included three representatives from each of the repressed nations Karachay, Balkar, Ingush, Chechen, and Kalmyk nations, and representatives of the Cossacks and the Russian Germans.
"The Coordination Council will address the issues reflected in the resolutions of the international conference 'Rights of Repressed Nations in Modern World", which was held in Cherkessk. In particular, the issue on implementation of the Law" On Rehabilitation of Repressed Nations" and by-laws adopted in the early 90s by the Government of the Russian Federation under the decree of the Russian President. Most of provisions of those legislative documents remained unfulfilled," Suleiman Botashev has stated.
