In Dagestan, wife of missing Khasavyurt resident reports on investigators' inaction

Patimat Khakimova, a resident of Khasavyurt, appealed to human rights defenders with the request to assist in the search for her husband Rashidbek Shamsudinov, who was kidnapped by unidentified persons on March 26. According to her story, law enforcement bodies do not investigate the case, since law enforcers were involved in the kidnapping.

"My husband was a follower of the traditional Islam. He was not connected with any militants, and he was not registered at the police station as a Wahhabi. Prior to his kidnapping, he returned from small hadj (pilgrimage) from abroad. After his hajj, my husband kept explaining everyone that there was no jihad in Dagestan. Apparently, someone is very much interested that Dagestani take no action to ensure peace in Dagestan," says Patimat Khakimova in her appeal to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

Adilgerei Omarov, an advocate of Patimat Khakimova, reports on eyewitnesses of the incident with Rashidbek Shamsudinov. "We have eyewitnesses who saw him being searched prior to be taken away. There are records from the surveillance cameras. However, no investigation is being carried out into the case. For some unreported reason, the criminal case was instituted under Article 'murder' instead of 'kidnapping'. Obviously, investigators have some data that they do not report to us," Adilgerei Omarov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In his turn, Arslan Ataev, an investigator of the Khasavyurt MRSO (Interdistrict Investigating Division), who carried out the investigation into the case, states that it was Patimat Khakimova who impeded the investigation.
