Rally in Volgograd demands to preserve the aluminium factory
On August 20, Volgograd hosted a rally against liquidation of the aluminium factory. The protesters demanded from the authorities of all levels to stop the collapse of local industry, save the Volgograd aluminium factory and prevent its conservation. The authorities in the region expressed their support for the protesters.
The event, which was sanctioned by the Mayoralty, was organized by the Volgograd Regional Committee of the Mining and Metallurgical Trade Union of Russia.
The rally was supported by workers of the "Krasny Oktiabr" Factory, the Volga Pipe Plant, the Volgograd Factory "Severstal Metiz", and trade unionists. According to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the rally was attended by at least 1000 people.
People were standing with posters: "Today, they close factory; tomorrow they'll close kindergartens, schools and hospitals!", "Save the Volgograd Aluminium Factory!", "Govt, stop rise in electricity tariffs!" and "No Russia's progress without industry!"
The speakers at the rally demanded from the authorities to take steps towards reducing electricity rates for the enterprise.
