Court releases Karachaevsk Mayor from custody
Soltan Semyonov, the head of the Karachaevsk city authority, accused of misuse of funds, has been released from custody today by the decision of the Supreme Court of Karachay-Cherkessia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 9, the following day after detention, the Cherkessk City Court ruled to place Semyonov into custody and temporarily remove him from his post. On August 12 both decisions were appealed against to the Supreme Court (SC) of the Republic.
The SC has satisfied the first appeal of the defence and released Soltan Semyonov in the courtroom, the RIA "Novosti" quotes Alibek Botashev, the press-secretary of the SC, as saying.
According to his story, the second appeal was dismissed; therefore, Semyonov cannot resume his work as the Mayor of Karachaevsk, the "Interfax" reports.
Let us remind you that Soltan Semyonov is accused of misuse of funds allocated to the city for repair of and modernize the education system. Semyonov had agreed to testify, but refused to plead guilty.
