Registration documents of presidential candidate Ibragimbekov submitted to CEC of Azerbaijan
On August 21, the documents confirming the nomination of Rustam Ibragimbekov, the Chairman of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF), for participation as a candidate at the presidential election were submitted to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan. The approval of Ibragimbekov's candidacy will be decided within five days, said Eldar Namazov, a member of the NCDF.
Currently, Ibragimbekov is outside Azerbaijan trying to give up his Russian citizenship, since a person with double citizenship cannot run for presidency in Azerbaijan.
The CEC began receiving documents for approval of presidential candidates back on August 3. The delay of presenting Ibragimbekov's documents was caused by his absence in the country, Eldar Namazov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The documents submitted by Ibragimbekov's supporters to the CEC include a certificate that he has no obligations, including financial ones, before the Russian state, and a certificate confirming his official address to the authorities of the Russian Federation on refusal from Russian citizenship.
