Baku Court of Appeal leaves Tofiq Yagublu, Deputy Chairman of "Musavat" Party, in custody
On August 22, the Baku Court of Appeal dismissed the complaint filed by Tofiq Yagublu, Deputy Chairman of the "Musavat" Party, against the decision of the first instance court to prolong his arrest.
Let us remind you that Tofiq Yagublu was arrested this February following the riots in the city Ismailly that occurred on January 23-24. On April 26, Tofiq Yagublu was charged of organizing mass riots, accompanied by violence and pogroms. On August 13, the Nasimi District Court prolonged the period of his arrest till December 4.
In his complaint, Tofiq Yagublu requested to cancel the decision of the Nasimi District Court and to replace his arrest with other pre-trial restriction measure not related to the detention in custody.
"Unfortunately, once again, the Court has pronounced unfair and unjustified decision against Tofiq Yagublu. The consideration of the complaint was a formality. The court has uphold the decision of the first instance court, failing to take into account the arguments of the defence that there is no reason to keep Tofiq Yagublu in custody, while investigation actions are not carried out for many months," the "Caucasian Knot" was told by Nemat Kerimli, an advocate of Tofiq Yagublu.
The advocate has claimed the political motives of the prosecution of Tofiq Yagublu.
