Azerbaijan: Professor Jamil Gasanli nominated by NCDF as second candidate
Today, Professor Jamil Gasanli from the Baku State University has been elected as the backup presidential candidate of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF).
The issue of nominating the additional candidate for presidency was put on the agenda of the today's NCDF session with the account of the probability that the main presidential candidate – the chairman of the NCDF the screenwriter Rustam Ibragimbekov – will not be admitted to the election.
The candidacy of Jamil Gasanli was supported by 72 voting members, one person voted against him and one abstained. Jamil Gasanli was offered Rustam Ibragimbekov himself in his message addressed to NCDF members, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
Jamil Gasanli has signed a memorandum of obligations, in which he undertakes to withdraw his candidacy should Rustam Ibragimbekov get approved as a candidate.
