In Georgia, 11 NGOs nominate Tamar Zhvaniya as CEC head
Activists of eleven Georgian NGOs have put forward the candidacy of Ms Tamar Zhvaniya, the head of the UNDP's election projects, for the post of the head of the Central Election Commission (CEC).
"Zhvaniya fully responds to the necessary criteria; she is a person of principles and open-minded," said Nino Lomdjarya, the head of the NGO "International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy".
After appointing Zhvaniya to the post of the CEC Chair, public confidence in the election administration will go up, NGO activists believe.
Tamar Zhvaniya was put forward by eleven NGOs, namely: the "International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy", the Transparency International – Georgia, the Young Lawyers' Association, the Centre for Human Rights Studies and Monitoring, the Foundation "Open Society – Georgia", the "Article 42 of the Constitution", the "Multinational Georgia", the Coalition "For Civil Development", the "Centre for Development and Democracy", the "Democratic Initiative of Georgia" and the "Centre for Development of Electoral Environment".
