Volgograd: action in memory of victims of Stalingrad bombing brought together 50 people
On August 23, a mourning rally took place in Central Embankment of Volgograd, near the monument to the civilians who perished in bombardment of Stalingrad. The action was attended by about 50 people – war veterans, townspeople, survivors of the bombing, politicians and public figures.
The speakers at the rally "Remembrance Day of Victims of Stalingrad Bombing" recalled the events of August 23, 1942, when the Luftwaffe aircrafts heavily bombed the city.
Nikolai Parshin, a Deputy of the Volgograd Regional Duma, reminded that earlier public organizations of Volgograd and veterans had asked the local authorities not to hold any noisy actions and shows on the Remembrance Day, including the bike show that was held in Volgograd at night on August 24.
"However, their appeal wasn't heard – and we watch today this orgy in our city," said Nikolai Parshin.
The rally adopted a resolution, advising the regional and municipal authorities to focus their efforts "not towards organize expensive shows," but towards the laws on children of war.
