Advocates of students Avagyan and Barsegyan complain to CoA of Nagorno-Karabakh
The defence of the students Rafik Avagyan and David Barsegyan, sentenced in Nagorno-Karabakh to 11 and 10 years in prison for treason and espionage, has appealed against the verdict.
Thus, on August 22, Erik Beglaryan, the students' advocate, submitted a complaint to the Court of Appeal (CoA). The document lists almost 20 points of violations during the trial, the lawyer told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Beglaryan has noted that the position of the defence remains the same: complete acquittal of his clients.
"My clients are innocent. Should they be guilty, they would have been punished to the maximum; however, they received the minimum under this article. We will insist on complete acquittal of the students," said the lawyer.
He added that "since our republic remains unrecognized, we cannot appeal to the International Court; therefore the CoA should be as objective as possible."
The date of consideration of the complaint is not known yet.
