Protesters detained in Yerevan, beaten journalist taken to intensive care unit

In Yerevan, policemen have detained 16 protesters against construction in Komitas Avenue.

Let us remind you that on August 24 residents of a number of houses in Komitas Avenue in Yerevan blocked the road in protest against construction of a multifunctional building in their yard. The protesters were reinforced by activists from the initiative groups ''We are owners of our country!'', ''Trchkan'' and ''Pre-Parliament". Protesters lay down on the asphalt and blocked the street traffic.

The policemen arrived and detained 16 protesters, Argishti Kiviryan, a journalist of the edition named "Armenia Today" among them. During his detention Kiviryan was beaten in the police car, the "NEWS.am" reports.

Argishti Kiviryan was taken to the intensive care unit of the Nor Nork Medical Centre. He received multiple injuries, the "Armenia Today" reports referring to the lawyer Aramazd Kiviryan.

Other detainees include Armen Mkrtchyan, a member of the board of the "Ayazn" Party, and Egiya Nersisyan, a member of the "Pre-Parliament", the "Armenpress" reports.
