Court session on the case of Rostov journalist Tolmachov postponed to August 28
The next session of the court dealing with the case of Alexander Tolmachov, a Rostov journalist and publisher, will take place on August 28. It is expected that the judge will make a decision on the possibility for Tolmachov to go to meet voters as a candidate for Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Rostov Region.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2011 Alexander Tolmachov was detained by the Novocherkassk City Court in connection with charges of extorting one million roubles from an entrepreneur. The hearing of the case began on August 26.
Nina Petrenko, a Tolmachov's public defender, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the session on August 26 failed to address the case on the merits. Sergey Emelyanov, the Tolmachov's advocate moved a motion on changing his client's freedom restriction measure from custody to recognizance not to leave; however the judge dismissed it.
A motion was also moved asking to add Tolmachov's defence with a member of the PARNAS Party, which had nominated him as a candidate for Deputy. Ms Petrenko said that this issue and others will be considered on August 28.
