In Armenia, coordinator of information agency is suspected of using violence to policeman
Argishti Kiviryan, the coordinator of the Internet edition "Armenia Today", became a figurant of a criminal case of using violence against a power representative. The case files, after a comprehensive study, have been delivered to the Special Investigation Service of Armenia, said Sona Truzyan, the press secretary of the General Public Prosecutor.
Let us remind you that on August 24 Kiviryan and 26 other activists were forced to the police during a protest against the construction of luxury buildings in Komitas Avenue in Yerevan. During the detention Kiviryan was beaten in the police car, and then hospitalized, said his advocate.
Ms Truzyan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the police opened a criminal case against Kiviryan under point 1, Article 316, of the Criminal Code of Armenia (threats or use of violence, not dangerous to human health against a power representative), the penalty for which is a fine in the amount of 300-500 floor salaries, or deprivation of freedom for up to five years.
Sona Truzyan has added that in preparation of the materials on the incident investigators took into account Kiviryan's complaint that violence had been applied by the police platoon commander Vahan Vrtanesyan.
In her turn, Lusine Saakyan, the Kiviryan's advocate, has treated the fact of immediate initiation of a criminal case on the basis of a police report as absurdity. She noted that the complaint of her client was ignored; and no criminal case was opened based thereon.
