Unexploded mines complicate search for militants in mountains of Chechnya, law enforcers report
The high-mountain Vedeno District of Chechnya continues a special operation to search for a member of the armed underground, who on August 26 wounded a policeman near the village of Neftyanka. This was reported by the Chechen law enforcement bodies. It was reported that the ongoing actions are hampered by dense vegetation and a large number of unexploded ammunition.
Let us remind you that an armed clash occurred in the mountainous and forested territory of the Vedeno District where an encampment of militants was detected. The wounded policeman was hospitalized to the district hospital. Law enforcers blocked the quarter where the suspected militant had taken a refuge and began combing the district. Till present, traces of the gunman have not been found.
In his interview with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, a Chechen law enforcer said that the militant could be not along, since they usually act in pairs or in groups of five or six persons.
Local residents claim that after a grouping of Khusein and Muslim Gakaev was destroyed in January 2013 in the Vedeno District, the armed underground does not act there.
Meanwhile, a staff member of the Chechen law enforcement bodies, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that in the Vedeno District, militants had many accomplices; however, at present, members of the armed underground are not supported by local residents.
