In Baku, 30 persons hold action under slogan "Free Election"
Today, in the centre of Baku, 30 activists hold an action under the slogan "Free Elections". The activists stand for raising the awareness of the public about the upcoming presidential election. This was reported by Anar Mamedli, the leader of the Centre for Monitoring Election and Democracy Training.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 18, NGOs of Azerbaijan declared creating the coalition "Group of Public Support 'Free Election in 2013'" to struggle to secure the democratic conditions for the presidential election, the voting for which is scheduled for October 9.
The action was held with the aim to raise awareness of the public about the presidential election and the level of civic engagement in the campaign. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Anar Mamedli, a member of the "Group of Public Support 'Free Election in 2013'".
According to the information of Anar Mamedli, shortly after the beginning of the action, the participants were stopped by policemen who demanded to stop the collective march. After that, the policemen began accompanying the activists and did not allow new people to join them. The action lasted for about 45 minutes, and after that the participants of the action left the place.
Earlier it was reported that at the meeting held on August 2, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan has scheduled the voting at the coming presidential election in the country for October 9.
