At trial against journalist Igor Tsagoev, prosecutors suggest to exempt defendant from criminal responsibility
Today, at the debates in the case against journalist Igor Tsagoev, prosecutors suggested the court to find the defendant guilty of inflicting bodily harm and theft of property, but to exempt the defendant from criminal liability, since the crime had been committed long time ago.
Speaking at the debates, Bella Ulbasheva, Prosecutor of the Nalchik City Prosecutor's Office, stated that it was proved at the trial that on January 13, 2000, Igor Tsagoev, being in the apartment of victim Madina Uyanova, inflicted bodily harm to her and also stole money belonging to her.
Bella Ulbasheva suggested the court to sentenced Igor Tsagoev to two years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony.
In her turn, Natalia Yusupova, public defender of Igor Tsagoev, stated that the actions of her client had no intention and no mercenary motive and asked, when pronouncing the verdict, to acquit Igor Tsagoev in the episode with the theft of cash.
In his final statement, the defendant himself has said that he recognizes his fault of inflicting bodily harm, repents and apologizes; however, he has stated that he did not take the money of Madina Uyanova.
The court is to pronounce the verdict on September 2.
