Dagestani SC sends case against policeman who beat teenager to Gergebil District Court

Today, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan has sent to the Gergebil District Court the case against Magomed Magomedov, a staff member of the Shamil ROVD (District Interior Division), for beating a 14-year-old teenager. This was reported by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July 2010, Makhmud Akhmedov was brought to the OVD (Interior Division) in the village of Khebda. According to the story of the teenager's relatives, policemen used violence to force the teenager to confess stealing a drill. On July 2, he was sentenced by the Shamil District Court to three years of imprisonment.

However, on July 30, the Presidium of the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan cancelled the verdict pronounced by the Shamil District Court against Magomed Magomedov and sent the case back for a new consideration. This was stated in a response of the Prosecutor's Office received by the HRC "Memorial".

According to the information of the human rights defenders, the judge has granted the motion to change of territorial jurisdiction and sent the case to the Gergebil District Court for consideration.
