In Armenia, near GPO, about 50 persons hold action in defence of Argishti Kiviryan
Today, near the building of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Armenia, a picket was held in defence of Argishti Kiviryan, a coordinator of the online publication "Armenia Today", accused of using violence against a policeman. The protest action was attended by about 50 persons.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 24, Argishti Kiviryan and 26 other activists have been subjected to forcible bringing to the police station during a protest action against the construction of a luxury building in Komitas Avenue in Yerevan. According to the statement of advocate of Kiviryan, during the detention, he was beaten in a police car and then hospitalized.
The today's protest action was associated with the today's Argishti Kiviryan's summon for questioning to the Special Investigating Service. According to the activist, at the interrogation he was mentioned as a witness, while the police had filed a specific charge against him, aiming to present him as a defendant.
It should be noted that the criminal case was instituted against Argishti Kiviryan under Paragraph 1 of Article 316 of the Criminal Code of Armenia "Threat or use of violence, not endangering health, against a power representative."
