Former CEC head of Georgia nominated as presidential candidate
Zurab Kharatishvili, the ex-Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia, has nominated for the country's presidency by the "European Democrats" Party.
Let us remind you that Zurab Kharatishvili resigned from his post of the CEC Chairman on August 12; and his powers were formally terminated on August 29. Immediately after resignation, Kharatishvili announced his intention to start his active political career and did not rule out a possibility to run for the presidency at the October 27 election.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that according to the CEC, as of August 31, the CEC had received 43 applications from potential presidential candidates.
At the present stage, only two of them have been officially registered: Mikhail (Gela) Saluashvili, nominated by his initiative group, and the leader of the Labour Party Shalva Natelashvili. Nomination will last till September 8.
