Court puts defendants in Politkovskaya murder case behind bars
The Moscow City Court (MCC) has granted the prosecutors' motion and ruled to place Ibragim and Djabrail Makhmudov, figurants in the murder case of the observer of the "Novaya Gazeta" Anna Politkovskay, into custody.
At today's court session, the prosecution said that both Makhmudovs had violated their recognizance not to leave. The state prosecutor Maria Semenenko has presented data to the court that on July 8-15 Djabrail and Ibragim Makhmudovs went outside the territory of Moscow, namely, to Chechnya, North Ossetia, Dagestan and the Tula Region.
The defence and the defendants themselves have objected to adding these documents to the case files. Advocates complained about "unclear requests of prosecutors about the departures of their clients outside Moscow," treating them as illegal.
Judge Pavel Melekhin has satisfied the motion of prosecutors Boris Loktionov and Maria Semenenko, despite the objections of the advocates, who recalled that their clients were disciplined in attending the court sessions, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
