In Armenia, student detained at protest action
About 200 people took part in a protest against the increase of tuition fees at universities. One of the organizers – the student Arutyun Mkrtchyan – was taken to a police station.
The action began with a gathering of some 25 students at the stairs in front of the main entrance to the Yerevan State University (YSU); then they decided to march to the building of the government.
At the building, the students used a loudspeaker to demand a government's answer to their demand to cancel the illegal, in their opinion, increase of tuition fees; they promised to organize the next protest action at the presidential palace on September 5.
"Our next protest will take place on September 5 already in front of the president's residence," Mger Kazaryan, a member of the "Nikol Agbalyan" Students' Association, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to his story, the students are determined to demand from the president himself to address their problem.
