Armenia announces its decision to join the Customs Union
Armenia has decided to join the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia, says the joint statement of Presidents of Russia and Armenia, signed after the talks of the leaders of the two countries.
"I have reiterated the Armenia's desire to join the Customs Union and take part in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union," said the President of ArmeniaSerzh Sargsyan, who is quoted in the joint statement of the leaders posted on the website of the Russian President.
In his turn, Vladimir Putin has expressed his support for the initiative. "The Russian party supports the Armenia's decision to join the Customs Union and take part in the Eurasian integration process and its formation. We'll fully support this process," said the President of Russia.
Despite the fact that now Armenia will have to receive a formal approval of its accession not only from Russia but also from Kazakhstan and Belarus, the political decision has been made, Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, has commented the outcomes of the talks.
