KBR native convicted in Saint Petersburg for justifying terrorism
As reported by the local Investigating Department of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), a native of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), who was detained in February in Saint Petersburg, has been sentenced to two years in a colony-settlement for distribution of video clips containing calls to terror acts.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 8 in Saint Petersburg, 271 people were detained during a special operation aimed to reveal members of a radical religious group. Murat Sarbashev, one of the detainees, a native of the KBR, was arrested for two months on suspicion of distributing extremist literature and videos with footage of terror acts. His relatives and friends treated his arrest as a misunderstanding.
According to the investigation, in August 2010 Sarbashev posted on his page in the network "VKontakte" a video, which reported "the need for armed struggle and commission of illegal acts of violence against those Russian nationals, who do not practice the Islam."
The court found the evidence gathered by investigators sufficient to convict the defendant to imprisonment for two years in a colony settlement, said the official website of the above Investigating Department of the ICRF.
