Eleven protesters against Armenia's accession to Customs Union detained
In Yerevan, in front of President's residence, a protest action was held against Armenia's accession to the Customs Union. The protesters chanted "Russia, go away!", "Serzh, go away!" and "Free and independent Armenia!"
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Armenia had decided to join the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia; and this was stated in a joint statement, signed by Presidents of Russia and Armenia on September 3 after the talks of the leaders of the two countries.
Argishti Kiviryan, the coordinator of the News Agency "Armenia Today", told reporters that during the above action 11 activists were detained and taken to the police station of the Arabkir District of Yerevan.
The protesters have stated that "the today's action was spontaneous; and it should be taken as disagreement of citizens of Armenia with the decision of the head of state Serzh Sargsyan."
They added that they would not allow "anybody to take such important decisions concerning the sovereignty and security of the country" on their behalf.
