Armenia: Vardan Sedrakyan sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempt on ex-presidential candidate

The court has sentenced Vardan Sedrakyan – the main figurant in the case on the attempt on the former presidential candidate Paruir Airikyan – to 14 years in prison. Another defendant Khachatur Pogosyan received the same term, while the third defendant Samvel Arutyunyan was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the attempt on Paruir Airikyan was committed on January 31. Vardan Sedrakyan, another ex-presidential candidate, was accused of organizing the attempt, while the other two were the performers.

After announcing the verdict, Alexander Sirunyan, Vardan Sedrakyan's advocate, said that he would surely challenge the verdict.

Let us remind you that in their last plea Samvel Arutyunyan and Khachatur Pogosyan confessed that they wanted "to frighten" Airikyan. Vardan Sedrakyan said that he did not admit his guilt of organizing the attempt.
