Moscow court to consider Dagestani MP's claim to Orhan Jemal
On September 25, the Golovinsky District Court of Moscow plans to consider the claim lodged by Shamil Isaev, a Deputy of the People's Assembly of Dagestan, against the journalist Orhan Jemal on protection of his honour and dignity. The MP demands to recognize the facts presented in Jemal's article about the investigation of the murder of the Dagestani journalist Gadjimurad Kamalov as untrue and defamatory.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Ali Kamalov, the Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Dagestan and a relative of the assassinated journalist, that two suspects of committing the crime – Murad Shuaibov and Isa Abdurakhmanov – had been detained and were testifying.
On June 20, 2013, the website of the Internet medium "Caucasian Policy" posted a Jemal's article "Bitch, I've recognize you, I always thought it would be you!", which asserted, on the basis of operative materials, that Shamil Isaev, an MP of Dagestani Parliament, was involved in Kamalov's murder.
Biyakai Magomedov, who is representing Jamal's interests, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the journalist had the right to express his views on the progress of the investigation and the figurants in the case.
Earlier, the advocate of Murad Shuaibov, who was detained in Dagestan as a suspect of killing the journalists Malik Akhmedilov and Gadjimurad Kamalov, said that the investigating authorities were forcing his client to testify against the Dagestani MP Shamil Isaev and the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan Magomed Magomedov. The journalist Orhan Jemal, who is conducting his inquiry into the cause, did not rule out involvement of state officials in the crimes.
